The Chief Justice Joe Greenhill Golf Tournament and Scholarship benefits students of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law and the alumni association. A vital part of the local legal community for over 19 years, 14 percent of lawyers in Tarrant county are graduates of Texas Wesleyan, more than any other single school besides University of Texas.
The tournament’s namesake, Joe Greenhill sat on the Texas Supreme Court for 25 years, 10 as Chief Justice. As Assistant Attorney General, he defended the State of Texas in Sweatt v. Painter, a “separate, but equal” case. Almost 10 years later, US Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall invited Chief Justice Greenhill as his honored guest when the Court denounced “separate, but equal” in Brown v. Board of Education. Chief Justice Greenhill donated many of his notes, papers, portraits, and memorabilia to Texas Wesleyan School of Law.
The 2009 Chief Justice Joe Greenhill Golf Tournament would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. For more information, please see our sponsor page:
