Alumni Association Reunion Weekend

Members of the alumni association board present Justice Greenhill with a $10,000 check to benefit the Chief Justice Joe Greenhill Scholarship. The award will be presented to a student who plans to work in public service and displays professional integrity and excels academically.
With almost 90 members of the alumni and law school communities in attendance, the Chief Justice Joe Greenhill Golf Tournament, held Friday, April 18, at Cowboys Golf Club, was the most successful yet for the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law Alumni Association.

The golf tournament has become part of the annual alumni meeting and awards dinner. The event was recently named in honor of former Texas Chief Justice Joe Greenhill in recognition of his long-time service to the Texas legal community. Alumni association board member Blake Hedgecock ‘00 was the chair of this year’s tournament.

Following a round of 18 holes of golf, members of the 23 participating teams and others attended a reception and dinner with Chief Justice Greenhill and his family, at which time Justice Greenhill’s son, Bill Greenhill, announced a donation to the law school of some of Justice Greenhill’s papers and notes, and his memorabilia.

“This is something deeply in my dad’s heart,” Greenhill said. “To support people who share his love of the law.”

Interim Dean Cynthia Fountaine said that Justice Greenhill’s papers are a wonderful gift to the school that will provide excellent learning opportunities.

“We are honored and excited to receive Justice Greenhill’s papers and memorabilia,” Dean Fountaine said. “This donation means a lot to our school, and will provide opportunities for future generations of students, scholars, and lawyers to study his work.”

Additionally, Dean Fountaine announced the Chief Justice Joe Greenhill Scholarship, an annual award that will be given to a Texas Wesleyan law student who plans to work in public service and who displays professional integrity and excels academically. The alumni association started the fund with a check for $10,000, which board members presented in honor of Justice Greenhill.

Justice Greenhill was also presented with the alumni association’s Steve Chaney Friend of the Law School award, an annual award acknowledging extraordinary service to the law school by a person or persons who are not affiliated with the school by attendance or occupation.
