Texas Wesleyan School of Law Distinguished Alumnus Award
- A Special Edition for our 20th Anniversary
The true measure of a university’s greatness can be found in the achievements of its alumni. Texas Wesleyan University School of Law develops leaders in the law who are civic-minded, talented and diverse. To commemorate our 20th anniversary this year, the school of law and the alumni association will recognize 20 outstanding alumni with the Distinguished Alumnus Award to celebrate their personal and professional achievements and their commitment to the law school.
Purpose and Philosophy
The purpose of the 20th Anniversary Distinguished Alumnus Award is to recognize and honor Texas Wesleyan University School of Law alumni who have made significant contributions to society, and whose accomplishments, affiliations and careers have honored our law school’s legacy of excellence. The award will further illustrate the great value of the academic programs and student involvement at Texas Wesleyan School of Law and increases the pride all alumni, students, staff and faculty have for the law school.
Criteria for Selection
Alumni must be nominated to be considered for the 20th Anniversary Distinguished Alumnus Award. Recipients will be accomplished in the three following distinct areas:
- Texas Wesleyan University School of Law Loyalty and Support: The recipient’s deeds and actions reflect the importance of his or her educational training, pride in alma mater and loyalty to Texas Wesleyan. These efforts are demonstrated in the interest in and support of Texas Wesleyan School of Law and the alumni association and its programs.
- Professional Attainment and Achievement: The recipient has attained prominence through his or her efforts in excellence in the practice of law and service to the profession in line with the law school’s mission.
- Public Service and Community Participation: The recipient has exhibited integrity and a demonstrated commitment to service through an interest in bettering the lives of others through volunteer efforts.
Eligible Nominees
Alumni are eligible to be nominated for this award. An alumnus is defined as any individual who has graduated (meaning the individual has successfully fulfilled all graduation requirements and is in good standing with the University and respective bar licensing institution) from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
Method of Nomination
Nominations may be made for the 20th Anniversary Distinguished Alumnus Award by any of the following individuals or groups:
• Any member of Texas Wesleyan Law School Alumni Association or its affiliate organizations, (i.e. Law Review Alumni Association);
• Any member of the Texas Wesleyan administration, faculty or staff (historic or law campus);
• Any member of an affiliate or support organization of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law;
• Any friend of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
Nominations will be accepted using the following guidelines:
1. Complete the nomination form or create your own document that mirrors/ includes all the categories/fill-in-the-blanks of the form. The nominator's name and signature are required.
2. Incomplete nomination forms/documents will not be accepted.

3. Nomination packages must be received by Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009.
4. In addition to the award nomination form, nominators are encouraged to provide supporting items that further distinguish the nominee. Such items include, but are not limited to:
• Current biography or vita for the individual
• Up to two letters of support from non-family members that specifically address the criteria
• Newspaper and magazine articles
• Awards or certificates of achievement
• Other items of interest
5. One nomination per individual will be considered.
6. No limitation will be placed on the total number of nominations accepted for consideration.
Method of Award Recipient Selection
Texas Wesleyan School of Law will use the following guidelines for the award recipient selection:
- The selection committee will remain anonymous, but will include at the very least; a member from each of the following: the alumni board; law school senior administration; and the law school faculty.
- The office of alumni relations & advancement will collect submitted nominations which will be reviewed and validated.
- The office of alumni relations & advancement will submit the nominations to the committee in advance of the Selection Committee meeting.
- A member of the selection committee must recuse themselves if an individual they have nominated is presented to the committee for approval and/or if the committee member is a nominee for the award.
Announcement and Recognition
Texas Wesleyan University School of Law will announce the recipients of the 20th Anniversary Distinguished Alumnus Award through various methods and honor each recipient at the 20th anniversary gala in the spring and in a commemorative 20th anniversary book.
