At a private reception after the ceremony, Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg congratulated and welcomed the alumni to the Supreme Court.  Justice Ginsberg shared with us the news that while our alumni were being sworn in to the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court, President Obama announced his nomination for Supreme Court justice, Sonia Sotomayor.

All in all, a big day for our nation and for our alumni!

Several members of the law school community were in attendance, including Professor Michael Green, who presented the names of each nominee before the Justices of the Supreme Court. Dean Frederic White was sworn in with the group of alumni to the Supreme Court Bar. Family and friends attending the reception and ceremony were proud to show their support.

The alumni enjoyed a full slate of activities in our nation’s capitol. A reception hosted by the office of alumni relations was held the night before the ceremony at The Tombs in Georgetown (the inspiration for the movie St. Elmo’s Fire). The alumni relations office also coordinated tours of the U.S. Capitol for over 85 alumni and their families, courtesy of Congresswoman Kay Granger's office. Several alumni attended the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery, where Kathryn Craven '98 shook hands with retired U.S. Senator Bob Dole and his family. Meg Johnson ‘03 watched her brother-in-law march in the National Memorial Day Parade. In addition, actress Diane Wiest, who appeared in PBS’ National Memorial Day Concert, joined our post-ceremony
tour of the U.S. Supreme Court building.
