Texas Wesleyan University School of Law alumnus Brian Taylor ’08 recently received the Buck Wynne Scholarship from the law school committee of the State Bar of Texas’ Natural Resources Law Section for his outstanding performance in introductory environmental law.

The scholarship is named after former regional administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Buck Wynne.

The section’s law school committee sponsors a scholarship that is available to the top-ranking student in the introductory environmental law course at each law school in Texas. Professor Keith Hirokawa, who joined the Texas Wesleyan law faculty in 2007, taught the course.

“Brian was an outstanding environmental law student.  Although there was some stiff competition in the class of very talented students, Brian earned this award by rising to the top,” Professor Hirokawa said. “It was a pleasure to have him in the class.”

Interim Dean Cynthia Fountaine said Taylor’s achievements are representative of the high achievements of students at Texas Wesleyan.

“As the top performer in his environmental law class, Brian has already set himself on a path to success in his career as a lawyer,” Dean Fountaine said. “This is a wonderful compliment to Brian’s achievements, and we are so proud of his hard work and achievement.”

Committee liaison Hal Ray presented the scholarship check to Taylor at a special ceremony at the law school on May 28. Professor Hirokawa, Dean Fountaine, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Vickie Rainwater, and Director of Alumni Relations and External Affairs Casey Dyer were also present.
